Bedmaking made easy
54Start with Clean Sheets
-The first to place on the bed is the fitted sheet.Placed over the mattress with a secure fit to prevent slippage to prevent sore areas developing on the skin which can lead to a very bad sore especially in the elderly and the very young. If the patient is allowed to continued to lay on the unsecured sheet this will only worsen a sore area to the point of breakage of the skin which can lead to a bed sore that may require surgery to deride the dead tissue.
-The second is the flat sheet.Make sure the sheet fits to the top of the bed mattress so coverage is complete of the patient. The corners at the bottom are the army corner style folding. This sheet needs to be equal on both sides so the covers will not slide to one side during the active sleep cycle.Make sure the tucking at the foot is in correct style so the sheet does not come loose during sleep and tossing and turning.
-Third is the blanket which is tucked as well if enough is allowed at the foot of the bed,if not leave enough to fit to the head of the mattress to ensure proper coverage.Infants does not require a top sheet only a blanket with proper heating elements in the house to prevent hypothermia which can lead to death of the infant.Sometimes this maybe labeled as SIDS.
-Finally is the comforter of bedspread which is not tucked so it can hide all of our imperfections of bed making and sheet quality.
-This is how I have made beds for many years and have had good results with this technique.
-Change the sheets if they become solid during the night to prevent ruining of the mattress and the odor will get back on you after you have bathed. This also prevents the bed from odor as well. When the mattress is foiled you can try to clean it but for the most part it will have to be replaced if soiling is allowed to continue over a period of time.Or use a mattress cover which is usually a plastic cover that sips over the mattress to prevent matter from coming in contact with the mattress. This can be purchased at any leading department store. These are recommended for bed bound patients who are incontinent or bed wetters and teenage girls who have just started their monthly cycle, due to their inexperience with the flow of body fluids during this time of the month.A pad will also work as long as it has a plastic backing.
-This has been my experience with bed making for many years and it has a pretty good success rate.
