How to Make a Hospital Corner Bed

Start With The Fitted Sheet

-The fitted sheet  is the first to go on the bed ensuring that it fits the corners well to keep it on the bed and preventing slippage during sleep which can lead to ulcers in the elderly and very young if prolonged exposure to the wrinkles. These are not ulcers that will heal easily they can even require surgery if left untreated.A pad is required if you have a bed wetter. This protects the sheets and the mattress from soiling and bad smell.

- The second is the flat sheet.Make sure that the sheet  is equal on both sides prior to tucking. Then tuck the bottom with a swooping action of the bottom of the sheet.Grasp the bottom of the the sheet on the sides then lay in on the top of the mattress.Tuck the edge that is toward the floor.Finish with flipping the part on the mattress toward the floor. You should have a 90 degree edge when finished( a slanted edge not a messy fold).

-The next is the blanket where you ensure the top is equal to the head of the bed before tucking using the same technique as with the flat sheet.

-The comforter is the last to go on the bed. This is not tucked. It is left to cover the underlying covers.

-Don't forget the pillow cases. They play a important part in protecting the pillows from mouth, eye, nose and ear secretions. The hair that falls out will go on the pillow case instead of in the pillow where it can injure the eye if it gets into the eye during sleep or with morning awakening. The cases also help to prevent the pillow from Oder related to sweating that occurs during sleep especially in the summer months.

-Change the sheets if they become solid during the night to do away with odor that will get back on you after you bath.

- A clean bed is better to sleep on than one that is wrinkled and dirty with body particles that shed during the night.Clean beds are a must for bed redden patients to prevent any sores that can become life threatening if left untreated.
